One of the biggest reasons I love High Point Market is that I get to see what’s new and cool and fresh for TFD’s clients. Another reason is… the treasure hunt!
Now, if you haven’t heard of High Point Market, it’s a huge (and I mean huge) gathering of designers and home product lines, from lighting to furniture, art to accessories, pillows to hardware.
If you can think of it, it’s there and looking dreamy, so it probably won’t surprise you when I say…
it’s one of my favorite designer events of the year and I can’t wait to share it with you!
What’s New in Interior Design
This year, I saw a swing toward a more accessible vibe and lots of mixed metals and, well, mixed everything. New and old. Modern and vintage. Shiny and matte. The design rulebook appears to have been thrown out the window. (Cheers to that!)
But my favorite part of the “mixed” look is the way it reflects just being yourself. Telling your own story, whatever it happens to be. And you know we’re all about that. 😉
Have a Seat
I love love love relaxed, easy seating, and I especially love the mix of materials and patterns used in these great pieces I saw. And be sure to check out the dining room set up…it doesn’t always have to be chairs on chairs…some interesting stools, an upholstered bench….so good!
Statement Lighting
Two words: Basket lights!!! And when you take a basket and fashion an oversized light out of it–count me in! I saw basket lighting all over the market…and these creamy gems are perfect for creating that casual, coastal vibe. I’m definitely on the hunt for the next project where I can install one of these bad boys. I’m smitten. 😍 😍
Take a look below: I also have a thing for pendants! Of course anything by Kelly Wearstler is pretty fabulous… and the globe pendant is just effortlessly cool (and big shout out to Visual Comfort…always one of my go to sources for great lighting)!
A few more that caught my eye…
…and if these haven’t convinced you, just remember that great lighting can make or break a room! Just think about how you long you hang on to a lamp or fixture…shouldn’t it be show-stopping and have something to say? We definitely think so! 🙂
Color is in…wait, was it ever really out?
Just kidding, but in this world (well, my world) of neutrals, color still has impact. We saw lots of deep, saturated tones and color “stories” told in many different ways. Blues and greens were still the king and queen this year, but some artists were completely mixing things up (so fun)!
Unexpected Textiles & Textures
Mmm… texture! Done well, it’s the key to a collected, unfussy look. I saw SO many combined textures: shiny with matte, rustic with polished, timeless combinations that felt fresh and relatable. Whether in a wood grain or toothy, luxe fabric…there were so many interesting things to see and notes to take:
It’s All in the Details
Details make the design. Surprising details? Even more so! These are just a few of the pieces that earned themselves a good double-take and lean-in…
Scenes with All the Feels
Last, a few scenes and shots that sum up the weekend. Texture, movement, modern and vintage, with a LOT fun thrown in… all good things!
By now, you’re probably wondering how I ever made it back from the market, right? I won’t lie, it wasn’t easy. That basket lighting… 😉
But I hope you enjoyed peeking behind the scenes of my trip and seeing how we find new, unique pieces for our clients’ homes.
I’ll be back soon with more inspiration, but in the meantime, don’t forget to subscribe to Looped!
Xoxo,
Tara
